An away day to Blackburn? From the Boat?

Don’t mind if I do!

As the weather and our engine woes only took us 2 hrs from the marina yesterday, morning at Medge Hall mooring was a little strange. In no particular hurry  but with a lot to do, we just started the day and took it as it came  The trip back to the marina was swift and uneventful. In no time at all we were back  moored up and in the van, M62 and Blackburn bound.

It’s always strange combining boating and football, the 2 interests are so different that sometimes you feel like you are shedding a skin as you transfer from one activity to another.

However, the usual talk about the Imps soothed the transition and we were soon in Imps mode. Lancashire was soon upon us and the signs to places like Bury and Burnley reminded us of previous triumphs. With lots of time to kill we did a little exploring and ended up on Pendle Hill and enjoy the far reaching views.

Soon enough it was time to head to Ewood Park. As usual the match day experience passes so fast…. We were a little earlier than most fans, but obviously later than the team. However, Nicky Cowley was clearly later off the bus than the rest of the guys, as we were just walking past the main entrance when James casually said “oh, there’s Nicky!” As willing as ever, he posed for a selfie with James – What a guy!

We had good seats and enjoyed a first half where I really thought that we might just beat this Championship team. Alas it was not to be, as the game ended 4-1 to Blackburn. We’d done our bit, spanked their arses on occasions and gave a good account of ourselves, both as a large away day fan following and as a team top of the league.

I always think that I’ve had a good time at a match when my hands are sore and my throat needs a drink. Today was one those days  We don’t get to do many away days, but the ones we have done have been a fantastic experience and it’s always good to tick off another football ground.
